Wife & Mother

I’m a proud wife of an U.S. Army veteran. I homeschool our inquisitive 7 year old daughter.

Reader

Chidren’s books are my jam! I have a slight obsession with living picture books.

Teacher

It is my unwaivering belief that kids can understand big (even abstract) concepts with the help of engaging stories.

Publisher

I opened my own boutique publishing company in 2023.
Little Honeycomb Press

I grew up in rural Southwest Missouri, where I spent my childhood on a 40-acre farm. It was a life filled with morel mushroom hunting, four-wheeling, tadpole catching, grapevine swinging (to varying degrees of success), and raising chickens. Nature was my playground, and I loved every minute of it! But when my family moved into town, that love for the outdoors started to fade.

I discovered my love for writing in elementary school and even won a few school competitions. But after my first taste of rejection in sixth grade, my 12-year-old ego took a hit, and I gave up my dream of being an author. Little did I know, God had other plans for me!

Growing up in a Christian home with divorced parents meant I bounced between different churches every weekend. My understanding of the Bible was a bit like Swiss cheese—lots of holes. As a teenager and young adult, I struggled to find a church where I felt truly connected because I was embarrassed by how much I didn’t know about the Bible.

That all changed when I became a mom! After my daughter was born, I felt a deep desire to build a strong spiritual foundation for our family. We found a church that felt like home, and that was the beginning of my faith journey really taking root.

In 2021, shortly after my baptism, God placed a calling on our family’s heart to start a homestead. The idea was to provide for our family and also serve others in our community, especially those in need. It was a big leap of faith, but we’re embracing the journey!

It was also in 2021 that I saw a gap in Christian children’s books—especially ones that helped kids not just memorize the fruits of the Spirit, but understand how to live them out. That’s when I felt God leading me to write stories that would help young children experience and practice their faith in a real, tangible way.

God-directed children’s books …

Queue God calling me back to writing and putting the fruit of the Spirit at the center of it. Talk about feeling unequipped! But, as I soon learned, God equips the called. His presence was felt throughout the entire planning process of The Garden Scouts series and the writing and publishing of my first book, Buzzing With Love.

My Inspiration

Nowadays, I have rediscovered my love of nature and sense of wonder in God’s creation. It’s all thanks to the precious gift God blessed my husband and I in 2017. I could tell our daughter was connected to nature early on when she would only fall sleep to nature sounds.

My daughter’s love for bugs (obsession might be a better word) helped me to see God’s smaller creatures in a new light. I went from being super creeped out and afraid of nearly all insects to seeing them through the curious lens of a child again.

My daughter helped me appreciate the importance of each insect and the beauty each mandible, wing, and pupa adds to our world (so long as they aren’t shoved in her face or put in her hair). Better still, my daughter opened my eyes to how amazingly creative our God is.

When I started this project in January 2022, it was really important to me that I create a series that helps highlight this same beauty, that I now see in our world, for each of my readers.
